GENERAL RECYCLING

It’s easy to recycle from around the home with many items being recyclable.   From plastic food and drink packaging to cardboard boxes that housed gifts under the Christmas tree – there are a variety of packaging that can go into your recycling boxes and reusable sack.

Christmas lunch, New Year’s Eve celebrations and friends and family popping round means one thing – fridges and cupboards stocked with food and drink.   Plastic drink bottles, tubs and trays can go straight into the blue recycling sack, but remember to give them a quick rinse in washing up water and remove any plastic tops or lids.

Drink cans and food tins are welcome in your recycling, so are glass bottles and jars, just make sure they have been given a quick rinse then pop them into your recycling boxes or blue recycling sack.   Alternatively you can take them to your nearest Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC).   Egg boxes, cardboard sleeves from food packaging or the box from your favorite cake and biscuit selection can be recycled too.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT ALL MATERIALS ARE SORTED AND CARDBOARD FLATTENED PRIOR TO ARRIVING AT THE HWRC

Food waste such as vegetable peelings, turkey bones, plate scrapings, tea bags, coffee grounds or any out of date food can be put in your food waste caddy and be recycled too (please ensure you first remove any packaging before placing in your food bin).

And while you may spend a little extra time getting ready for the Christmas and New Year nights out, remember that toiletries such as plastic shower gel and shampoo bottles, deodorant and shaving gel aerosols plus any card packaging they were bought in can all be recycled.

WRAPPING PAPER AND CHRISTMAS CARDS

We are unable to collect Christmas wrapping paper as it is of a low quality and often contains non-recyclable items such as ribbons, bows, glitter and tape, collecting it with our kerbside paper would contaminate the load which could result in the load being rejected by our contractors who only require newspaper, magazines and office paper.   The same would apply to Christmas cards which often contain glitter, glue and ribbons.  All of these will need to be placed in your wheelie bin.

N.B. Our HWRC’s are closed on Christmas Day and New Years Day

Real Christmas Trees can be collected from the kerbside between Tuesday 2nd January 2018 and Monday 15th January 2018 on request by calling 01685 725138.  Please cut the tree into manageable pieces (no longer than 1.5 meters and no heavier than 25kg).

We would like to thank all of those who participate in the recycling scheme and with you all a very Merry Christmas
